the swarm of the bees-Olive little

It was the time when I was eating my lunch chatting to my friends, being casual. I put my lunchbox away and went into the classroom. EVERYONE was screaming and scrambling to get to the door saying (BEES! BEES! BEES!) I was quite confused but then I realised what everyone was screaming about, a bee hive!I looked out the window and saw a gigantic swarm of 20 thousand bees dashing around in every direction! When everyone was screaming Mrs may was ringing up Dana because he was a bee-keeper. Suddenly a car with lots of gear pulled up by the tree where the bees were. Everyone was watching Dana, he started putting on his bee safety uniform. Then he got a white box out of the truck and put it next to the bees. He held the box right under the bees and then he scraped them of a branch. The bees fell into the white box following the queen bee, It looked like a ton of sand flowing out of a tree. All of the painful bees were finally gone but Dana left the box there just in case.

Mrs May Avatar.JPG
Where in the World is Mrs May?
Write a creative story about where you imagine Mrs May to be today? Remember to use lots of details and descriptions! I can’t wait to read your stories.
Today Mrs May is in Samoa. She is scuba diving in the reef and taking pictures of all the colourful fish and coral. She is taking the pictures so that she can show them to our class. She is buying lots of souvenirs like lava lava’s, necklaces and pretty summer dresses. She took the principal with her. She went to samoa so she could have a year off school. Next she is going to have a tour in the jungle. She can see the monkeys and parrots she also has to wear a hard hat so that coconuts don’t fall on her head. Mr Auld is enjoying himself so much that he is going to turn the school into a free waterpark and bring back presents for all the kids in the school. Now she is going to the ice cream shop because she is very hungry and very hot. She got a vanilla double decker chocolate strawberry coated ice cream with a teeny tiny sugar fish on the top of the scrumptious double decker ice cream. Now she is doing more scuba diving and this time she is catching parrot fish and white bait for her fish tank. The principal is sunbathing under the boiling hot sun, he has a red back. Now that it’s the end of the year she can return to school but Mr howell has taken over and he is doing an exploding chair experience!!!

House on fire

 House on fire

I hear a beeping noise. It's my smoke alarm!!!! Before I escape the house, I say FIRE! FIRE! FIRE! Ok now I have to  keep calm. As I do this I touch the doorknob to see if  it's hot, it is.I try to get my window unstuck, I can’t. Now I have to find a toy to break my window. I use my hockey stick and get every shard of glass out of sight. I find my shoes and put them on. Now I climb out of my window and go to the mailbox. I use my phone and call 1,1,1. At the mailbox I see my Mum, my Dad and my sister but not my brother. I hear the noisy fire engine coming. I tell the firefighters that my little brother is not at the mailbox. They race into my house in search of my brother. I see the smoke surrounding the firefighters as they disappear into the house. Twenty minutes later they come out of the house with a body on one of their shoulders. It's my brother!!! He gets down off the firefighter’s shoulder and runs straight to us. We all have a hug as the firefighters put the fire out.

My elaborated sentences

In Room 4 we have been looking at making sentences more interesting for our reader by adding details. We have had so much fun taking a boring sentence and making it great. Check out my examples.

The lady walked out of the shop.
The elegant lady quickly jogged out of the boutique shop.

The pig ate from his trough.
The Royal pig ate cakes out of his golden trough.

The teacher came into the classroom.
The scary teacher tiptoed into the classroom and made the big kids scream.

The mouse went into his hole.
The greedy mouse tiptoed into his gloomy hole to avoid the cat.

The robber went into the house.
The robber escaped and snuck into the dark house.

The girl walked into the classroom.
The mean girl smirked and stepped into the silent classroom.

The dog sat by his kennel.
The puppy lay next to his kennel.

The bird flew in the window.
The bird whacked into the cracked window.

The cat sat on the mat.
The fluffy kitten placed his rear onto the ragged mat.

The computer stopped working.
The chromebook ran out of batteries.

The door opened.
The gate creaked slowly open.

The cute fluffy kitten was very tired of playing with his owner so he placed his rear onto the ragged mat. Then another kitten joined then another and another and another until the mat was full. Suddenly the only cat in the house sat on top of the kittens and the whole pile collapsed and the cat had the mat to herself. Until the dog joined her and another and another and another then all the labradors chased her away. She was just looking for somewhere to sleep, until she found the cockatiel's cage……. SQUAWK SQUAWK SQUAWK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tree planting at Waitahuna

At Waitahuna room 7 and 4 went to nick's  farm and did some flax planting. Some parents came with us, Marie and Mrs may. When we got there, we met Rachel and Grant Murray, Craig Simpson from Landcare, Keiran and Angus (the electric fisherman) we also met Matt from the department of conservation, Glenn (from the Sinclair Wetlands) she helped with planting and two ladies from the Otago regional council. We went on the 16th may and we left school at 9:30 and came back at 12:30. When we were planting, we planted flaxes along the river bank. We had to dig a hole and then we took a plant out of a black bag and then we put the plant in a hole, mashed the dirt up and stood on the dirt so the plant would not blow away. We wanted to help the fish and eels that live in the Waitahuna River so that they can have a place to live and have a healthier one too. The flaxes help the eels to hide, and they stop the banks from sliding in they also provide somewhere for the bugs to live so the eels can eat them. Planting flaxes will now make the river a better environment for a long time. While we were there, Keiran showed us an eel that he caught in a net that he set overnight he also showed us some electric fishing, which is when he used an electric current to stun the fish, so that they can catch them and look at them more closely. He told us that the bigger the fish, the more effect the electric shock would have on them. He showed us brown trout and a lamprey eel that he had caught earlier. Lamprey eels are very rare, and it was the first one Keiran had ever caught.

House on Fire

File 28-03-17, 8 20 54 AM.jpeg

I see a tiny red light crackling through the window. It starts licking up the walls as it explodes with light and flames.
The sound makes me feel like I'm cooking sausages on a barbeque. The smoke is so thick that it stings my eyes. The flames grow higher and higher, and the walls fall down. Bits of the house melt off. As the fire's heat gets hotter and hotter, the walls get eaten by the flames. Now there’s only one wall left. Everything is gone now, it's just a small chimney and a massive pile of wood. The frame is black the walls are black. Gone. I would be sad if that were my home.

senior swimming sorts.

On Friday we went to the school pool to do the senior swimming sports. The year 3’s didn't go to the swimming sports because they went to the Waitahuna swimming carnival on Wednesday. My favourite event was backstroke. I did it with Oranje, Katie, Emily, Aria, Ava and Grace. My Dad told me that I was coming first in backstroke for a while and then the the other girls were catching up, I came 5th. After all the other people did their events it was lunchtime, some people had a sausage with bread and a fizz. Then after we had lunch we got to play for a bit. Then we went back up to the pool to do the widths races. I was in them. The first one was freestyle, I came 4th in that. Next was backstroke, I came 4th. Last was the underwater race by mistake I did a front flip in the water and Oranje told me that Mr Auld had a funny expression on his face. The last event that I did was the flutter board race. It was in the big pool starting from the deep end. When I finished the race I came third! It was the highest place I ever came. I really enjoyed the swimming sports and I was really proud of myself.

Modigliani Self Portrait

This year we have been working on a project called Modigliani art. The main thing about Modigliani art is that when you drawing it you have to fill the whole page with your face, neck and shoulders. The first thing you have to do is you draw a practice copy with a big piece of paper with eight dotted squares on it. Next you draw your face (egg shape) it has to fill four squares. Then you have to draw your neck you have to make your neck quite long to fill the whole page. Then you have to draw your last thing your shoulders, you don't draw bumps for your arms you just make them curved. Then you draw another Modigliani on black paper, try to copy the one on white paper. When you have done it on black paper you colour it in with pastels you have to colour it in  the same direction.  Modigliani uses lots of bold colours, so we did too.

athletics day

A few weeks ago on Friday there was an athletics day at Simpson park. My favourite sport was high jump. I liked it because I liked jumping over the bar and landing on the big green mat. There were other sports like long jump, shot put, Nerf, sprints and distance. It took ages to do the distance because it was one whole lap of Simpson park. After we did all the sports there was a relay with Read and Woods. I was cheering for Read and Oranje because she is in Read.

Swimming

My favourite sport is swimming I just ❤ it. Every day at school we do swimming at the school pool, it is super fun.
Mrs May teaches us backstroke and freestyle. We either do lengths or widths of the big pool. we sometimes do an egg and spoon race ( not with a real egg just with a golf ball) and we also do freestyle and backstroke, we play other games too. My favourite out of backstroke and freestyle is backstroke. I like it because it is relaxing and you don't  have to do as many arms as you do at freestyle.
